2007 Osceola County Commission District 2
How Long have you lived in Osceola County?
Born and raised
What is your history of community service?
Growing up in a family dedicated to public service, I got involved early through the Methodist Church. This led me to future volunteering with Give Kids the World, Ronald McDonald House, Junior Achievement, Home Foundation, and the Osceola County Children’s Home. I also currently work for the local non-profit art agency, which allows me to work and interact with our community on a daily basis.
Why are in you seeking this office?
Because I want to bring a fresh perspective to our local government through innovative ideas and inclusive government. We can work together to build a better Osceola not only for today but for tomorrow.
What makes you the best-qualified candidate?
I was raised in District 3, I went to school in District 3, and met my wife in District 3. My heritage & future are woven within this community. Since I was freshman class President as Osceola High School, I have wanted to improve the quality of life in Osceola County. As your commissioner I will continue on this quest for all the citizens of Osceola.
Current or former elected official you most admire and why?
I most admire former President Jimmy Carter for his continued commitment to public service.
If additional revenue becomes available where would you spend it?
I would spend it on improving current infrastructure in Osceola County, increasing mass transit opportunities & exploring after school programs for our youth.
If revenue falls short, what are the areas you would target for cuts?
We would have to look at cuts across the board, because all services that Osceola County provides are important to one citizen or another.
Under what circumstances would you raise taxes?
I would only look at raising taxes if the citizen’s demand for additional service(s) required additional funding which can only be achieved through new taxes.
What is the top issue facing Osceola County?
Lack of job diversification and unchecked growth leading to congestion on our roadways. We can make the necessary changes now to make Osceola County a community to be proud of.
What does Osceola County government do well?
Being a regional partner
What does Osceola County government do poorly?
Osceola County Government has done a poor job at planning and constructing the necessary infrastructure for our future, Poor intergovernmental relations and also could do a better job of being more user friendly for it’s citizens & business.
Rate the job performance of the County Manager.
At this time it would be inappropriate for me to rate his performance without a direct working
relationship.
How would you help businesses in Osceola County?
We will start by taking care of own at home by changing the County’s local bid preference to benefit Osceola businesses first. I will make it a priority to continue to seek industry expansion that will provide better paying jobs and give the needed support to our present business community.
