This involvement has given me the opportunity to grow and develop leadership skills while serving my community. My community service ranges from being a girl scout leader, serving on the YMCA Board of Directors, active member of 1st United Methodist Church, serving as a Supervisor for Toho Water Authority, My Region – Executive Board Member; MetroPlan (8 years) Former Chairman – 2 years; MetroPlan Citizen Advisory Board- currently; League of Women Voters – Osceola County; Turnpike Authority TEAM FL representing Osceola County – Vice Chair; Leadership Florida Class XX
Why are in you seeking this office?
I have had the privilege to serve Osceola County as a County Commissioner for eight years. This opportunity gave me the unique experience of working with the Supervisor of Elections on different levels, as a candidate, an elected official and as a citizen. I saw a need to engage more of our citizens in the voting process and I believe this can be done through voter outreach and education. I believe there are ways to make the office more user friendly and less intimidating to our residents. I have the training and leadership ability to take our Supervisor of Elections office into the future.
What makes you the best-qualified candidate?
I have the passion, education and experience to lead this office into the future. I have experienced the political process at all levels that as a voter, a candidate and an elected official. I truly understand the value of every vote and the fact that one vote can change the course of history. I believe when elected to this office I can work with the voters of Osceola County to make a positive difference in their participation in the electoral process.
Current or former elected official you most admire and why?
I most admire our “Founding Fathers”. These individuals came from very diverse backgrounds with many different agendas. They worked together and had an understanding of laying aside their differences to set the groundwork for this great nation. It is an example of how all elected officials should work together for the good of the whole.
If additional revenue becomes available where would you spend it?
On voter outreach, education and upgrading office technology.
If revenue falls short, what are the areas you would target for cuts?
With the passage of Amendment One all government offices must do more with less. I will need to review the operations of the Election’s office and look for areas where reductions could be made without affecting the level of services provided to the citizens of Osceola County.
Under what circumstances would you raise taxes?
Constitutional Officers do not have the ability to raise taxes. Raising taxes is a responsibility of the Board of County Commission. It is the responsibility of the Supervisor of Elections and other Constitutional Officers to run their office in the most efficient manner, and to spend the tax dollar wisely.
